Jim Michener, 22, Dong Ba Thin (opposite Cam Ranh Bay) BOQ (bachelors officers quarters), November 1966.  Photo supplied by Josh Figueroa on 17 October 2005.  Josh, who had been a test pilot, was Jim's in-country IP, instructor pilot.  Josh received a Purple Heart for a mission they had flown together -- flying low level through a mountain pass on the Song (river) Tra Buon near Dong Tre, their aircraft was shot up, and Josh was injured.  Josh, who had flown in the Korean War, prepared Jim to become ROK MG Byong H. Lew's personal pilot.

On the Phan Rang Plain, Bulldog 354 crashed and burned on 18 March 1967.  Jim Michener, 22, was the pilot.  Bill Rewey was the crew chief.  Bill's nephew sent this photo to Jim on 7 March 2007, mere weeks before the 40th anniversary of the demise of 354.  He also informed Jim that his uncle had committed suicide on 18 December 2005.  Major Moses, a battalion intelligence officer with the 101st Airborne Division, received the Soldier's Medal for dragging Jim out of the burning wreckage.
